Shawn-Harun and 12 others banned from leaving the country
In a surprising turn of events, a court has issued a travel ban order for actress and singer Meher Afroz Shawn, former DB Chief Harun, and 12 others in the case of the late Maye’s murder. The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka, Mr. Chhannaullyah A, issued the order on Thursday.
Who’s on the list?
The banned individuals include former ADC of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch, Nazmul Islam, Meher Afroz Shawn’s father, Engineer Mohammad Ali, sister Mahin Afroz Shrinjan, Sejuti, Sabbir, Subrata Das, Mainul Hossain, Police Inspector Saiful Islam Bhuiya, Deputy Inspector Shah Alom, and Mokhlesur Rahman Milton. Among them, Saiful Islam Bhuiya and Shah Alom are on bail while the other 10 are fugitives. They were issued arrest warrants on April 22.
The Allegations
The court was informed by the plaintiff’s lawyer, Mr. Pintu, that they had applied for a travel ban against them. After the hearing, the court approved the application. The next hearing for the case is scheduled for July 1.
The Incident
On March 13, allegations of attempted murder and assault were brought against 12 individuals, including Mohammad Harun-ar-Rashid, by the late’s mother Nishi Islam. The case alleged that at the beginning of 2024, Shawn’s father, Mohammad Ali, advertised in a marriage media for a bride for his daughter. From that advertisement, Nishi was introduced to and married to Ali. Upon learning of this incident, physical and mental torture was inflicted upon Nishi by her father. During this time, Shawn and her siblings used their influence to imprison Nishi for six months in a jail.
Legal Proceedings
After filing the case, the police conducted an investigation as per the court’s directive. Upon finding the truth of the allegations, the court issued summons against them. On the designated day, two police officers from Badda Police Station appeared in court and took bail. However, due to Shawn and Nazmul’s absence, the court issued arrest warrants against them.
In Conclusion
The case is ongoing, and further details will be revealed in the upcoming hearings. The ban on leaving the country adds another layer of complexity to the already convoluted situation. Not really sure why this matters, but it seems like there’s more to this story than meets the eye. Maybe it’s just me, but it feels like there’s a lot more to unfold in this dramatic tale of murder and conspiracy.
