So, like, there was this big ol’ earthquake in Argentina, right? It was, like, a scary 7.5 magnitude one, which is pretty intense. And then, to make things even more nerve-wracking, there was a tsunami warning in Argentina and Chile. The two countries are all like, “Evacuate the whole dang southern coastal area, y’all!” to prepare for the potential disaster.
So, on Friday morning (May 2), around 10 AM local time, folks felt the earthquake shake things up. The US Geological Survey (USGS) said it originated about 219 kilometers south of the city of Ushuaia in southern Argentina. Chile’s Pacific coastal region, known for its earthquake-prone areas, was also advised to quickly get to safer ground in case of a tsunami. Residents were told to leave the coastal areas and seek shelter in higher ground.
There haven’t been any reports of major damages caused by the earthquake in Argentina yet. But, as a precaution, rescue and relief efforts are being prepared throughout the entire affected region. The Global Quick Response Team, who keeps an eye on earthquakes worldwide, warned that a tsunami wave could be generated within a 300-kilometer (186-mile) radius from the epicenter. The public is being urged to follow instructions and not freak out too much.
Honestly, not really sure why this matters, but the authorities are telling people to not panic and follow the guidelines. I guess it’s better to be safe than sorry, right?
So, yeah, just a heads up about the situation in Argentina and Chile. Stay safe, folks!
