So, like, have you heard about Bangladeshi peeps taking risks on the journey to Europe through the ocean? Super risky stuff, man. According to a report by the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex), the rate of unauthorized entry into Europe through irregular pathways has decreased compared to last year. Like, in the first four months of 2025, the number of peeps trying to enter Europe through irregular pathways has dropped by 27 percent. That’s like, a lot less people, dude.
The European Union’s main border pathways have seen a decrease in the rate of unauthorized entry. The Balkan region has experienced a 58 percent decrease in entry rates, while entry through the Central Mediterranean border has decreased by 3 percent. In the first four months of 2025, like, 15,718 unauthorized migrants entered Europe through the Central Mediterranean border. Frontex reports that this number is like, almost the same as the same period in 2024. The entry rate significantly decreased in March, but in April, due to favorable weather conditions, the rate increased by nearly 40 percent.
So, like, next year, Bangladeshi peeps are the largest group of unauthorized migrants entering Europe through the Central Mediterranean route. They have this whole system in place to get Bangladeshi peeps to Europe — flights, visa applications, and other processes, man. This whole journey costs like around 13 to 18 lakh taka. The second most active route for entry into Europe from January to April of the current year was the Eastern Mediterranean route. Over 12,200 unauthorized migrants entered through this route, which is like, one-third of the previous year’s entry rate during the same period.
I’m not really sure why this matters, but like, a lot of Bangladeshi peeps risk their lives to reach Europe through the ocean. They start their risky journey on overcrowded boats, man. According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), in the first four months of the current year, 555 people have died by drowning in the sea. Last year, this number was like 2,300. On the other hand, the number of unauthorized migrants trying to enter the UK through the English Channel has increased by 5 percent compared to last year. Until April of the current year, around 18,100 unauthorized migrants have entered the UK.
A researcher from the University of Warwick in the UK, Imran Ahmed, says that most Bangladeshi peeps want to take the risk of entering Europe through dangerous pathways for a better life. But, like, if more Bangladeshi peeps enter Europe through unauthorized pathways, the reputation of Bangladesh will be greatly damaged. He suggests providing proper training to young peeps to send them abroad as skilled workers to solve this problem.
So, like, if they take this step, the number of Bangladeshi peeps entering Europe through unauthorized pathways will decrease slowly. So, like, coordinated policy planning and its successful implementation are necessary, according to this researcher. Cool, right?
