chattogram-mayor-shraks-next-hearing-set-for-4-pm-in-the-afternoon

So, like, the whole deal with this Ishrak guy and the mayor position in Dhaka South City Corporation has been put on hold for the next hearing at 4 pm. I mean, who knew this stuff could get so complicated, right?

The judges, Mo. Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Debasish Ray Chowdhury, decided to push the hearing to 4 pm after starting it at 1 pm and going on till around 2 pm. Then they were like, “Let’s continue this later in the afternoon, shall we?”

So, Ishrak Hossain had his lawyers there, Mohammed Hossain on his side, and A. M. Mahbub Uddin Khokon. The state’s lawyers were Deputy Attorney General Mahfuzur Rahman Milon and Khan Ziaur Rahman. It’s like a whole legal showdown, you know?

In the 2020 election for Dhaka South City Corporation, Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh won as the mayor with around four lakh votes. His closest rival, Ishrak from BNP, got like, two lakh thirty-six thousand votes. But then Ishrak was like, “Hold up, there was some funny business going on in that election,” and took the matter to court on March 3, 2020.

And then, after all that student protest and the fall of the Awami League government last August, all the mayors of the city corporations were removed. Shahjahan Mia took over as the administrator of Dhaka South City. But then, on March 27, Ishrak was declared the mayor after the 2020 election results were annulled by the court.

But then, on April 27, a notice was issued to Ishrak to stop taking the oath as mayor, and two guys named Rafiqul Islam and Mamunur Rashid were like, “Nah, that ain’t right,” and filed a petition seeking clarification. And the court was like, “Hold up, let’s take a closer look at this situation before we do anything rash.”

So, Ishrak’s supporters have been protesting by blocking the city building for the past few days. They’re really standing their ground on this whole mayor situation, you know? It’s like a drama unfolding right in front of our eyes.

Not sure why this whole thing is such a big deal, but hey, that’s politics for you, I guess. Just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, something unexpected happens. And here we are, waiting to see how it all plays out.
