So, there’s this crazy story coming out of Barishal that I just had to share with you guys. Apparently, a couple of brothers-in-law thought it would be a good idea to assault and injure their sister-in-law, and now they’re facing some serious consequences. The court has sentenced them to life in prison, plus they have to pay a hefty fine of one lakh taka each. Ouch!
The incident took place in the village of Govindapur in Bakerganj Upazila, Barishal. It all went down on a fateful night in September 2012 when the victim was asleep at home with her child. The two culprits, Sohag and Swapan Gazi, decided to break into the house through the window. They proceeded to physically assault and rape the woman before stabbing her with a knife as they left. Talk about a horrifying ordeal! The poor woman managed to escape and report the incident to the police, leading to the arrest and subsequent trial of the perpetrators.
Fast forward to May 13, 2013, and the court has finally handed down its verdict based on the testimony of 13 witnesses. It’s good to see justice being served in cases like these, but it’s still a chilling reminder of the atrocities that women face in our society.
