Salahuddin Ahmed has been a member of the BNP’s National Standing Committee for quite some time now. Recently, Shafiqul Alam, the chief advisor to the press secretary, posted an article on his verified Facebook account regarding Salahuddin Ahmed. In this post made around 10 am on Sunday, he mentioned how Salahuddin Ahmed was abducted and tortured by the security forces, and was sent beyond the border a few weeks before starting work as the face of the BNP from a secret location.
Back then, during the Awami League government, extensive repression and torture were being carried out on the BNP. Khaleda Zia was kept under house arrest in Gulshan. Shafiqul Alam further expressed his experiences of regularly receiving statements from Salahuddin Ahmed every day. He and Chris, the South Asia Head of AFP, used to include his statements in their reports regularly. However, Shafiqul Alam found Salahuddin Ahmed’s articles to be complex and difficult to understand, despite recognizing him as one of the most passionate political workers in the country.
Salahuddin Ahmed was a fearless and fiery figure in the history of the BNP when he took on the role of the spokesperson after being arrested. His statements seemed to be the most daring and explosive in BNP’s history, challenging Sheikh Hasina’s administration directly. The language used was harsh, direct, and repeatedly targeted for impact. Shafiqul Alam mentioned that they had heard from security sources that Sheikh Hasina was so furious with Salahuddin’s statements that she ordered a special campaign to arrest him.
In the end, Salahuddin Ahmed was abducted at the beginning of 2015 and went missing. His wife, Hasina Ahmed, then began a brave and relentless fight for his release. During Sheikh Hasina’s regime, the difficult times of “Mother’s Call,” the brave resistance of Khatoon Hazera and her daughters like Hasina Ahmed, were seen as symbols of courageous protest. Many believe that due to his strong position, publicity, and international pressure, the security forces sent Salahuddin beyond the border.
Many people, even some young and gradually intolerant workers of the BNP, have forgotten those brave chapters of the party’s 17-year-long struggle. However, leaders like Salahuddin Ahmed led from the front at that time. Yesterday’s smear campaign against him was extremely abhorrent. We must remember that his fight challenged Sheikh Hasina’s autocracy fiercely. Nevertheless, most of us have forgotten those golden and glorious chapters of our political struggle. Today’s good times seem to have erased all our bad memories.
In conclusion, the article sheds light on the courageous stance of Salahuddin Ahmed in the face of adversity and repression from the government. It highlights the forgotten history of the BNP’s struggle and the sacrifices made by leaders like Salahuddin Ahmed. Despite the grammatical errors present in the text, the message of resilience and bravery in the face of oppression comes across effectively.
