In a daring police operation, four robbers were apprehended in Chaudagram, Comilla, along the Dhaka-Chittagong highway. The criminals were involved in a robbery incident that led to their arrest, resulting in the recovery of stolen goods, foreign currency, and weapons commonly used in their illicit activities.
The arrest took place on Wednesday afternoon, as per information shared by Mohammad Nazir Ahmed Khan, the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Comilla. The four individuals taken into custody were identified as Nazrul Islam, son of the late Ramiz Uddin from Jorapukuria village in Chandina, Comilla; Mohammad Alauddin, son of Tajul Islam from Nabajpur Nawabpur area in the same region; Abdul Hannan, son of Abdul Mannan from Monpura area in Chandpur; and Md. Sharif Hossain, son of the late Siraj Molla from the Char Mohan area in Lakshmipur.
SP Nazir Ahmed Khan revealed that an investigation of the crime scene and analysis of CCTV footage revealed a common pickup truck used in three separate incidents involving the same group of robbers. Further technological support and intelligence information led to the arrests of Alauddin and Nazrul from Chandina, as well as Hannan and Sharif from Kochua in Chandpur. During the operation, a pickup truck used in their criminal activities, local weapons, stolen goods, and foreign currency were seized from the suspects.
Upon initial interrogation, the robbers confessed to operating three groups of 20-25 members each in the districts of Comilla, Chandpur, Noakhali, and Chittagong. Targeting expatriates from the airport, the criminal gang would coordinate thefts, with six to seven robbers working together to rob individuals of their belongings at gunpoint. This elaborate scheme was carried out with precision, as reported by SP Nazir Ahmed Khan.
In a recent incident on March 1st, at around 6 AM in the Falgunkara area of Chaudagram, a young man named Belal Hossain, a Malaysian expatriate, was attacked in his private car by the robbers. Using a pickup truck to intercept his vehicle, they forcibly took his mobile phone, gold, money, and other valuables. A similar attack occurred on February 27th in Kuwait expatriate Naimul Islam’s car, where the thieves looted his possessions in a similar fashion.
The cycle of criminal activities by this gang of robbers is a cause for concern for the residents of Chaudagram and the surrounding areas. The arrests made by the police mark a significant step towards curbing their activities and ensuring the safety and security of the local population.
As the news of the arrest spreads, the authorities are hopeful that this operation will serve as a deterrent to other criminal elements operating in the region. The swift action taken by law enforcement is a testament to their commitment to maintaining law and order in the community, ultimately leading to a safer environment for all residents.
The successful apprehension of these four robbers is a victory for the police force and a reassurance to the public that justice will prevail in the face of criminal activities. The recovery of stolen goods and the dismantling of the criminal network are crucial steps towards achieving peace and security in the region. The collective efforts of law enforcement and the cooperation of the community are essential in combating crime and maintaining a harmonious society.
