So, like, Istanbul got hit with another earthquake, and people were freaking out, you know? Buildings were shaking, and locals were chilling in the park. Not really sure why this matters, but the news confirmed a Richter scale of 6.2 for the tremor.
Apparently, the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency in Turkey was all like, “Yep, earthquake happened.” Reuters reported that the city experienced back-to-back earthquakes on Wednesday (April 23) afternoon, causing panic all around. Like, no immediate reports of damage or casualties, but buildings were swaying, and folks were evacuating.
In the western part of Istanbul, known as Buyukcekmece, three more earthquakes were felt after the initial ones. The epicenter was in the Silivri region, about 80 km (50 miles) west of Istanbul, with a depth of 6.92 km (4.3 miles). People were advised not to enter damaged buildings and to avoid phone use or driving unless necessary.
Some dude got injured after he fell off a balcony due to the earthquake during a public holiday in Turkey. The Governor’s office reported a few aftershocks but no collapsed buildings or significant damage. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan assured everyone that he was closely monitoring the situation.
So, yeah, Istanbul was shook, but everyone seems to be okay for now. Stay safe out there, folks!
