In a recent development, former SP Fazlul Haque, who was temporarily removed from his position amid allegations of orchestrating a conspiracy in the case of torture against his wife Mehnaz Akhter in Mymensingh Range, has been sent back to jail. The court has directed his return to prison for further investigation into the allegations of conspiracy against him in the next two months.
On Monday, Fazlul Haque was asked to appear in court at the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, but his defense counsel did not apply for bail, leading to his return to jail. Earlier in the day at 11 am, amid tight security, Fazlul Haque was brought to court with handcuffs on one hand. The court premises were heavily guarded by court police inspectors, including Mo. Mostafa Kamal and OC Mahbubur Rahman from the Sadar Police Station. He was directly taken to the courtroom for the case of torture against his wife. He stood in court wearing a mask, while his lawyer Sohel Rana made a statement. However, no bail application was filed by him.
Abdul Kader Mia, the Special Public Prosecutor of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Natore, confirmed the information. He stated that on March 11, Fazlul Haque appeared before Judge Mohammad Abdur Rahim at the Natore Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in the case filed by his wife. On that day, the judge rejected his bail application and ordered his return to jail. Media personnel tried to capture his image and footage, leading to a commotion as Fazlul Haque climbed on top of a media camera. This incident went viral on social media, sparking widespread discussions and debates. On the same day, a local journalist filed a case against SP Fazlul Haque at the Natore Sadar Police Station. Subsequently, he was arrested in the case and later sent back to jail.
Fazlul Haque mentioned that he has been given time to prepare for the allegations against him in the next two months. The court then ordered his return to prison. He was then taken back to jail in a police van under tight security. During this time, journalists took his photos and videos, without any hindrance. No unpleasant incidents occurred today, and he was safely sent back to jail.
It is worth noting that on October 28 last year, Mehnaz Akhter filed a case against her husband, former SP Fazlul Haque, with the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Natore, alleging torture, extortion, and various other charges, amounting to a total of 20 lakh taka. Following this, SP Fazlul Haque was temporarily removed from his position and attached to the Mymensingh Range.
