It was a sunny day in Chittagong when the folks over at Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) decided to kick off a campaign to remove the controversial digital billboards at GEC Circle. The billboard owners had been given a day to take down the billboards by Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain. The operation began with CCC’s executive magistrate Chaiti Sarvavidya leading the charge, accompanied by big cranes and local authorities.

The advertising agency, Adframe, contacted CCC’s office and took responsibility for removing the billboards within a day. CCC’s Chief Executive Officer, Sheikh Mohammad Tauhidul Islam, informed Banglanews that the campaign to remove the digital billboards at GEC Circle was initiated in the public interest by CCC’s controversial court. Following this, the advertising agency reached out to the mayor for communication. They requested a day to open the digital billboards with the help of an expert brought in from Dhaka and complete the task. Consequently, under the mayor’s direction, the operation was put on hold.

In the end, the day was saved from the removal of the digital billboards at GEC Circle, thanks to the swift action taken by CCC and the cooperation of the advertising agency. The residents can now breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the eyesore billboards will no longer be a part of their daily commute. It’s a win for the people and a step towards a more visually appealing cityscape. Not really sure why this matters, but at least the issue has been resolved for now. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like this whole ordeal could have been avoided if proper regulations were in place from the beginning. But hey, better late than never, right?
