On Friday, at a protest rally at the south gate of the Baitul Mukarram Mosque, National Citizen Party (NCP) senior member secretary Tasneem Zara warned against allowing the Awami League to participate in elections before facing trial.
Zara expressed caution by saying, “We have gathered today to demand justice for the atrocities committed by the Awami League. The party has caused harm to thousands of people over the years, taking lives and leaving families devastated. Who knows if a daughter’s father is still alive or has been taken away? The streets have witnessed ruthless attacks and violence, leaving their livelihoods shattered for a lifetime.”
She further added, “The stains of blood have not yet dried. Our brothers are still suffering in hospitals. Will they be able to vote again? How many more elections must be held before realizing that subjecting people to torture under a party’s rule invalidates its registration? How much more oppression will it take to cancel the registration of a party that dehumanizes the people of Bangladesh?”
Zara emphasized the need to ensure justice for all parties and organizations associated with the Awami League. Without ensuring justice, discussions on Awami League’s participation in elections will not be acceptable in Bangladesh. Justice for the Awami League will secure the people of Bangladesh. Before that, this party will not be allowed to participate in the elections.
Earlier at 3 pm, the protest rally against the ban on Awami League’s trial and political activities had begun. A temporary stage was set up in front of the south gate of the National Mosque with three trucks.
At the rally, NCP convenor Mo. Nahid Islam, member secretary Akhtar Hossain, chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, chief organizer of the Northern Region Sarjis Alam, chief organizer of the Southern Region Hasnat Abdullah, senior group convener Samanta Sharmin, senior group member secretary Tasneem Zara, Nahida Sarwar Niva, senior chief coordinator Abdur Hannan Masud, and CEO of the July Memorial Foundation Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdha were present.
