Barishal Nursing College Students’ Unique Protest
In Barishal, nursing college students are holding a complete shutdown to demand their rights. According to the policy, they are protesting four times for an indefinite period with demands for justice for attacks and the settlement of four claims. Additionally, the Barishal Diploma in Nursing Midwifery Degree Committee has included a protest demanding equivalence of degree status for nursing diploma holders.
On Thursday (May 15), students of the nursing college stood separate from the college road, following their own schedule. At this time, the nursing college students said that since April 30, students of 32 government nursing colleges and 154 private nursing colleges across Bangladesh have been protesting for four years of graduate diploma holders’ recognition as equivalent to a degree by the University Grants Commission. When they went to implement the schedule on May 6, in addition to facing obstacles from teachers, students were also victims of beatings.
Until the demands are met and justice is not served for the beating incident, they said they will continue the protest. If the teachers involved in the attack are not brought to justice, they will be prepared for a rigorous movement.
Meanwhile, the Barishal Diploma in Nursing Midwifery Degree Committee has also included a protest demanding equivalence of degree status for nursing diploma holders. If their demand is not met soon, they will be ready for a rigorous movement.
