Bangladesh Communist Party (CPB) has stirred up protests in Dhaka against the establishment of a humanitarian corridor for the Rohingya and leasing of Chittagong port. The CPB leaders announced this during a gathering and protest march at the old Paltan intersection in the capital on Friday afternoon.

The CPB president, freedom fighter Shah Alam, along with general editor Ruhin Hossain Prince and presidium member Sazzad Jahir Chandan, addressed the protest gathering. Assistant general editor Mihir Ghosh led the organization of the gathering.

Alam stated, “The interim government has been given a mandate by the students, people, and political parties of the country to conduct necessary reforms and hold acceptable elections for everyone, not to hand over the country’s interests to imperialists.” He further added, “The people of the country have already made it clear that leasing the newly constructed New Mooring Terminal to a foreign company will not be acceptable.”

The CPB president emphasized, “In the past, the people of the country have protected the port through protests and legal battles against leasing it to foreign companies. Once again, the people will protect the country’s assets at any cost.” He also mentioned that the government does not have the right to make decisions on national issues without the consent of the people.

Prince, the general editor of CPB, expressed concerns about the delays in decision-making on national issues, which could jeopardize the country’s democracy. He urged everyone to remain united in resolving the current political crisis and demanded the interim government to announce a specific date for elections without delay for a fair and acceptable election process.

Before the gathering, CPB activists from various areas of Dhaka marched towards the old Paltan intersection with a protest rally. After the gathering, another protest rally took place at the party office, covering Zero Point and Baytul Mukarram areas.

According to CPB sources, protest gatherings and demonstrations will be held in various districts and upazilas across the country on May 23 and 24 as part of the nationwide protest program. On Saturday, protest gatherings, exchange meetings, processions, and roadshows will be organized in various districts and upazilas by CPB.

The CPB’s protest movement is gaining momentum, with more activities planned in the coming days to oppose the government’s decisions on the humanitarian corridor for the Rohingya and leasing of the Chittagong port. The party is determined to protect the country’s interests and assets, and the people’s support is crucial for this cause.
