Gather around folks, ’cause I got some news for ya! So, apparently, the second day of the ongoing student and public protest against the three-time demands of the Awami League’s political ban is happening at Shahbagh in the capital city. But hey, looks like the crowd has thinned out a bit since last night, with fewer people gathering there this morning.
Yesterday morning at 9 am, I swung by Shahbagh and saw the scene for myself. People were there from the crack of dawn, chanting all sorts of slogans against the Awami League’s political ban. However, it wasn’t as packed as it was yesterday. Only a few students are currently stationed at Shahbagh. They’re chanting slogans like ‘Ban Ban, Ban Awami League’ and ‘Abu Sayeed is amazed, the war is not over’ and whatnot. Some of them were even chilling on the road at night. But most of the night protesters have left Shahbagh.
Due to the presence of the students and the public, the traffic movement in Shahbagh is still restricted like it was yesterday. Every road at Shahbagh intersection is blocked with barricades to halt the traffic movement.
On Friday evening, starting from 5 pm, students and the public have been protesting at Shahbagh. Before that, the announcement of boycotting the Awami League was made by the National Citizens Party’s (NCP) chief organizer Hasanat Abdullah in a rally near Hotel Intercontinental crossing. He declared that they would continue the protest until the Awami League was banned.
He also announced the blockade of Shahbagh intersection. After his announcement, the protesters took out a procession and blocked Shahbagh intersection at 4:45 pm. Later, they stayed at Shahbagh for the whole night.
At 11 pm, Hasanat Abdullah announced the next plan of action at Shahbagh.
On Saturday at 3 pm, he declared a public gathering at Shahbagh. He also announced the continuation of the protest movement.
So, it looks like the protest at Shahbagh is still going strong. Let’s see how things unfold in the coming days. Until then, stay tuned for more updates!
