Three Student Representatives Injured in Sarail Attack

Brahmanbaria’s Sarail area witnessed a disturbing incident on Sunday night, where three student representatives advocating against violence were injured in an attack. Among the injured were representatives of the anti-violence student movement, namely Irfan Khan, Alif Mahmud Nahid, and Mohammad Moazzem. Irfan, in particular, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital for medical treatment. The news of the attack prompted Sarail Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Mosharraf Hossain, district representative of the anti-violence student movement Baijedur Rahman Siam, and other student representatives to visit the hospital to check on the injured.

The incident unfolded at 10 PM on Sunday, near the Sarail-Nasirnagar road in the Dhantia area. A microbus was overtaking a motorcycle in the area when locals noticed and blocked the microbus at the stand nearby. The student representatives approached the scene and informed the police of the situation. At that moment, the students requested the police to take the microbus to the station. As tensions rose, the crowd at the microbus stand engaged in a heated argument with the student representatives. Suddenly, a stone was thrown, shattering the glass of the microbus. Enraged, the locals at the stand, led by the president of the stand, Helal, launched an attack on the student representatives, resulting in injuries to the three individuals. Among them, Irfan was in critical condition and was admitted to the district hospital.

Sarail Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam mentioned that seven individuals from the microbus stand were detained for initial questioning regarding the attack. Legal action is underway in response to the incident.
